How I Add Details to Porcelain Doll's Hands
Share
After slip casting, I love adding details to the doll's hands while the porcelain slip is still raw—in my opinion, it’s the best time to fix any mistakes. Since I adjust the position of the fingers, each doll’s hands are uniquely crafted to complement their overall appearance. This process takes me a few days to complete, but I truly enjoy watching these pieces come to life. Though it requires patience and precision, the challenge is part of the magic. Every little adjustment and added detail makes the final product even more rewarding.
Porcelain powder is hazardous to the lungs and can cause silicosis, so I always wet the piece before carving or detailing—safety first! Once the soft firing is done, I refine the details and carefully clean up the piece for added depth and precision. The doll becomes more than just an object—it tells a story and holds a piece of my artistic journey. I hope that anyone who sees or collects my work feels that unique connection.
